*Double Trouble – Imperial IPA (Founders – Grand Rapids, MI) 9.4% Snifter (6) Rated 100 on Ratebeer.com
This is an Imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops have got you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front paired with a malt balance backbone and a smooth bitter finish. With 86 IBUs this is for the hop forward drinker.
Edacsac Dekoorc Eert – American IPA (Dark Horse – Marshall, MI) 6.5% Snifter (5) Rated 90 on Ratebeer.com
This version of their famous Crooked Tree IPA is made with only Cascade hops, thus the name Cascade Crooked Tree spelled backwards. It’s not as heavy bodied and malty as many IPA’s, in contrast the palate is more crisp and dry. If you consider yourself a “hop-head” you owe it to yourself to try this beer.
Guinness Draught (Nitro) – Dry Stout (Ireland) 4.1% English Tulip (5)
This Irish dry stout is enjoyed the world over and brewed in over 150 countries. A dark stout with roasted flavors and a malty character.
Hop Sun – Wheat Ale (Southern Tier – Lakewood, NY) 5.1% Pub Glass (4) Rated 95 on Ratebeer.com
Pour Hop Sun Summer Wheat Beer into a pint glass, give it a long whiff and you’ll realize that this isn’t your average wheat beer. Filtered to a golden clarity and dry-hopped to perfection, Hop Sun is a fantastic session ale in which flavors of wheat, barley and hops co-mingle to a refreshing and zesty conclusion. Hints of lemon and sweet malts waft to the fore as a touch of bitterness contributes to Hop Sun’s bright finish. Enjoy it all summer long as a perfect balance to the warm weather. Summer never tasted so good.
*Monkey King – Saison (New Holland – Holland, MI) 6.6% Stemmed Tulip (6)
A brand new offering from the folks at New Holland. This is a soft, medium-body saison with subtle pepper character and fruity undertones.
Smithwick’s – Irish Ale (Ireland) 4.5% English Tulip (4.50)
Ireland’s number one ale. Its exceptional taste, distinctive color and purity of ingredients make it unique. Its rich, satisfying taste has earned it five gold medals in the famous Monde Selection Beer Tasting Competition.
*St. Vrain – Abbey Tripel (Left Hand – Longmont, CO) 9.3% Snifter (6) Rated 86 on Ratebeer.com
The usually peaceful St. Vrain River snakes out of the Rocky Mountains, winding mischievously towards the Left Hand brewery. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an 1800’s trapper and trader in the valley, St. Vrain is their version of a classic Belgian Tripel. Light in color and lightly hopped using Celeia hops, a touch of malt sweetness contrasts the warm spiciness hidden within. What at first appears benevolent can manifest into a mighty serpent in waiting.
Summer Shandy – Fruit Beer (Leinenkugal Brewing – Chippewa Falls, WI) 4.2% Pint (4)
Spring is here and Summer is around the corner, and that means Summer Shandy!! Infused with lemonade, this is the best-selling Summer seasonal in the States. Instead of trying to say that 5 times fast, just order one. Try it with Guinness, we call it “Summer Night.” Get one before it’s gone!!
Twilight Ale – American Pale Ale (Deschutes – Bend, OR) 5% Pub Glass (5)
A lighter, yet full-flavored, aromatic Ale for the long days of summer. Twilight’s solid malt foundation pairs with distinctive Amarillo hops for flavors every bit as intriguing as bigger, heavier ales. It is a back porch, lingering sunset wonder.
The Wright Pils – Pilsner (Great Lakes – Cleveland, OH) 5.3% Pilsner Glass (4) Rated 97 on Ratebeer.com
This beer was first released on December 17th, 2009, on the 106th anniversary of the first fixed-wing flight by the Wright Brothers, who built the first successful controlled airplane. Wright Pils is a classic pilsner style beer with a flowery bouquet and elegantly dry finish. The Burgess Brewery recruited the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll who, using new techniques and the newly available paler malts, created the first batch of modern pilsner on October 5, 1842. The combination of pale color from the new malts (aided by the Bohemian city of Plzen’s remarkably soft water), noble hops and Bavarian-style lagering produced a clear, golden beer which caused a sensation.
2X Stout (Nitro) – Double Sweet Stout (Southern Tier – Lakewood, NY) 7.5% Dimpled Stein (6) Rated 95 on Ratebeer.com
As part of their 2X line of beers, this beer is every bit as delicious as it sounds. Milk Stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. In the early 1900s, marketers claimed milk stouts were nutritious and good for your health. That might not be the case, but cheers to your health anyway!
Vanilla Porter – Porter (Breckenridge – Denver, CO) 4.7% Pub Glass (5)
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter: A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.
*Zinneke – Belgian-Style Imperial Stout (Smuttynose – Portsmouth, NH) 8.4% Snifter (6) Rated 95 on Ratebeer.com
Named in honor of the doggy denizens of Brussels, this is a hybrid beer. A big roasty stout, but fermented with a Belgian yeast, which brings out a beautiful fruity nose. They set aside a portion of the batch to age in bourbon barrels to allow the stouts chocolate and caramel flavors to marry with the woods natural vanilla and toastiness. The final blend pairs well with both savory dishes and your favorite dessert.
